Does it really keep squirrels out?
The cage spacing is the barrier, so squirrels cannot reach the seed through it. Where they still succeed is by jumping onto the feeder itself, so hanging it well clear of fences, branches and walls matters as much as the design.
Which birds will it attract?
Small songbirds such as finches, tits, sparrows and similar garden visitors. Larger birds cannot get through the cage, which is deliberate.
What seed should I use?
Sunflower hearts and small mixed seed flow well through the ports. Very large seeds or whole nuts can bridge and block the openings.
Will it survive being left outside?
It is metal throughout rather than plastic, so it handles rain and cannot be chewed open. That is the usual failure point on cheaper feeders.
How often should I clean it?
Empty and scrub it every couple of weeks, more often in wet weather. Damp seed and old husks are how disease spreads between garden birds, so this one matters.
